We’re getting closer to a traffic-free City of Joburg

By ^GZ – I think it is safe to say that I speak for all of us in the City when I say I’m sick and tired of traffic in Johannesburg!

You can imagine my excitement when I found out that the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) was officially launching a Smart Traffic Signal System and a hi-tech Traffic Operations Centre to arrest traffic congestion in the City. This new move from JRA is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Joburg significantly.

Traffic signals will be monitored and faults will be easily and speedily detected and repaired. Also traffic lights will be continuously monitored for technicians to be sent out to repair them once a fault has been detected.

Now doesn’t that already sound like Joburg utopia? This new system has been implemented already in some parts of Johannesburg and motorists have expressed their views on social media about how they have started seeing a difference with the flow of traffic in the City.

I for one am very excited about these new developments aimed at tackling traffic congestions in the City. It would be nice to get to work without feeling like you’ve already experienced a whole day in your car from just sitting in unbearable bumper to bumper traffic for hours.

Read more on the City’s plans to fight traffic congestion one traffic light at a time.
