Shaping career dreams one expo at a time

The City of Joburg launched its second annual four-day Region E Career Expo in Alexandra on 8 May. Packed with stalls from various government entities and the private sector, the organisations involved took time out from business as usual to empower the youth by providing them with information regarding their career options.

Being a part of the expo made me realise just how lucky some of the learners and the youth of today are.

The youth have been given a platform to enquire about their career aspirations and also gain access to learnerships, bursaries and internships. Many people were never afforded the opportunity of career guidance and the City has really gone all out to ensure that the expo is a success and serves the needs of those that need assistance in decision-making.

Khuphulanani Training Institute was just one of the 28 entities that had a stall at the expo. It specialises in giving the youth skills in education and ICT.

Baker McKenzie gave youngsters information about career opportunities available in the industry of law.

Media Mark spoke to the youngsters who are interested in the entertainment industry of radio, digital, TV and events.

Other entities present included Damelin, JOSHCO, Gamerz Xplosion, Primedia, as well as National Youth Development Agency .

The expo continues until 11 May. Learners and the youth in Region E and other areas are encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunity to obtain information on their desired career aspirations.
