Hey you bookworms, what if we told you that you can now check in at your nearest library in Jozi City anytime you want, so long it’s not after 9pm? Yes you read right, if you don’t believe it check out the #JoburgLibraries. It’s the latest and hottest hashtag on Twitter.
The City of Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba is the coolest and supports the reader in all of us. On the 4th of July 2017, Mashaba launched new extended operating hours for 10 libraries in Jozi City. The 10 libraries are:
- Jabavu library
- Orange Farm
- Ivory Park North
- Protea North
- Inner city library
So… whether you are in Sandton, Dieplsoot or all the way in Yeoville you can now access your local library after school, after work or however and whenever you want. Plus you’ll get free #JoburgWifi, I mean, who wouldn’t kill for free Wi-Fi amid the #DataMustFall struggle?
Our city libraries are basically having an Oprah moment and offering something for everybody. If you have a little somebody be it your brother, sister, son, daughter etc. that won’t keep quiet when you want them to, the library around you has that covered too.
There is a new holiday programme for the little ones. The holiday program guarantees to keep their little minds busy and instill a culture of reading while they’re still fresh and young, if not you can get your money back (what money? City libraries are free:).
So take those undiscovered geniuses to the library, expose them to books. After all you can never be too young or too old to learn.
In a nutshell, #JoburgCares deeply for its residents, we hope to bump into you at one of our library aisles. Just to end off, here are a four of the many fun facts about reading.
- It is therapeutic, as it reduces stress and anxiety
- It enhances your memory
- Boost your analytical thinking
- Helps in building your vocabulary
Join the movement and give your brain the power it needs, #JoburgLibraries promotes brain rangers. Let’s add a little twist to Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution and say “survival of the finest and well informed brains”
